Edward A. Borst Sr., 92, of Normal passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 13, 1930, in Hartford, CT to Thomas and Marie (Meagher) Borst. He married the love of his life, Carolyn J. Ward on November 23, 1972.
He went into seminary school at the age of 15 and was a part of the LaSalette Community. Following his time as a brother with the LaSalettes, he worked as an electrician for the Missouri National Guard.
Edward was a supportive parent at his kids’ many childhood events, long-time Catholic Catechism teacher, faithful accountant to the family store, and a wonderful father and grandfather. He was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Jefferson City, MO and more recently, Epiphany Catholic Church in Normal, Illinois. He was an active participant in multiple organizations including: the Lions Club, Amateur Radio Club, Toastmasters, and the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Carolyn; children, Lena Batt, Edward “Alex” Borst Jr., daughter-in-law, Mistey; grandchildren, Eamonn Batt, Ciaran Batt, Kiley Borst, Gretchen Borst, Edward “Eddie” Borst III; and 3 nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas Borst, sister-in-law, Betty; and son-in-law, Christopher Batt.
A graveside blessing will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal, on May 6, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. Cremation rites have been accorded with East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Club International Foundation.
