Doris was born on February 21, 1925 in Bloomington to Fred and Ruth Englund Erickson. She attended Bloomington High School and Illinois Wesleyan University where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She was a member of PEO, Chapter J.V., and a life long member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Doris married Louis D. Williams in August of 1944 at Neosho, Missouri before he went to war in the Pacific. When he returned, they started a family and began an active life in Bloomington. Louie passed away in 2005, and until recently, Doris was living at Westminster Village. They had been married for 60 years.
Doris is survived by her eight children, 16 grandchildren, and seven great grand children, as well as her sister Elaine Bessier of Overland Park, Kansas and her cousin Marty Purkey of Hilton Head, South Carolina. Her children are David Williams (Nancy) and Sally Rieger (Remy) both of Tucson, Arizona; Nancy Spurling (Don) of Merritt Island, Florida; Douglas Williams (Margaret), Susan O’Rourke (Tom), Laurie Alvey (Bruce), and Bruce Williams all of Bloomington; and Scott Williams of Honolulu, Hawaii. Sally, Susan, and Scott are triplets; Laurie and Bruce are twins, a remarkable and wonderful gift.
Doris will be remembered as a warm, fun loving, and supportive mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and a friend to many. She loved children, she loved to shop, and she loved a good party. We will miss her greatly. She and Louie put every ounce of their energy and love into raising their family, and were very proud of all of them. Their home was always welcoming, and their holidays were very special.
The family members wish to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Heritage Senior Care and it’s Legacy Care unit, Passages Hospice, and to Mary Carter for the loving care they provided to Doris in the final months of her life.
