David was born Feb. 7, 1947, in Missouri, the son of Ray and Anna Jean King Runge. He married Potenciana Anna Runge on Oct. 24, 1984, in Guam. She survives.
Also surviving are his daughter, Diana Wessel, Bloomington; two grandchildren, Hunter Joseph Wessel and Briana Ray Wessel; two brothers, Jerry (Patricia) Runge, Florida, and Mark (Mary) Runge, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Karen Scott.
David served in the U.S. Navy as a machinist's mate, serving two tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Navy after 24 years of service for his country. David enjoyed baseball. He was chosen for the elite Cardinal Company from the St. Louis area, sworn in on the baseball field at Busch Stadium in 1965.
He was a member of the American Legion in Bloomington and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 6 at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. The Rev. John Steffen of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Merna, will officiate. Per David’s wishes, cremation has been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion or Faith in Action in Bloomington.
