Colleen graduated from high school in 1955 and went on to attend Ball State University, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1958. She met her future husband, Larry Kennedy, while attending Ball State and the two were married in Indianapolis, IN, in 1958. Colleen taught for several years at Oakdale Elementary School and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Normal, IL. She enjoyed traveling and was well known for spending her time lunching with her friends. Colleen had a lifelong love of all forms of nature. She had animal companions throughout her life and always welcomed the various creatures she encountered (except spiders). In her later years, Colleen became an avid birdwatcher. She particularly enjoyed engaging her grandchildren in philosophical discussions. She could often trip them up when the young ones thought they knew it all. She loved talking about ideas. Colleen loved celebrating the seasons and every single holiday. Her home was always decorated with joy and attention to detail. She believed in the love of God and wanted everyone that entered her home to feel that too.
Colleen is survived by her children, Deena (Dan) Horn, Larry Kevin (Lucilia) Kennedy and Laura Kennedy, all of Bloomington; 6 grandchildren, Max Horn, Emma Horn, Jack Horn, Ethan Kennedy, Sean Kennedy, Anthony Maldonado; and siblings, Claudette and Lloyd.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Kennedy; and brother, Ben Cragun.
A private committal service will be held at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Central Illinois.
