Annie L. Greenard Porter

Among the last words of Annie L. Porter were, “God has brought me a long way.” She lived an exciting and adventurous life that took her from the country side of Shelby, North Carolina to the urban center of Detroit, Michigan. After meeting the love of her life, SFC Willie B. Porter, she became his wife and moved to Germany with her children Janette and Fred, while her husband served in the United States Army. Life in Europe eventually led to Annie’s return to the United States where her family settled in San Bernardino and finally Rialto, California.

Annie was blessed with many gifts and talents. Among them were resourcefulness, creativity, and wisdom. For years she worked for Harris Department Store exceling in customer service and sales. She invested in real estate and owned apartments with her husband. As a homemaker, she utilized her creative genius and became a self-taught designer of clothing and interior decorations. She fashioned all types of clothing, purses, hats, shawls, and other accessories for family, friends and for those in need. She was a classy lady distinguished by her warm smile, laugh and her sharp self-made outfits.

Annie was a professed Christian and a faithful member of Rialto United Methodist Church for more than thirty years. There she and her husband assisted in planting the cedar trees which beautify the church grounds. She unselfishly shared her talents by teaching a craft class at the church. With her friend and sister in Christ, Naomi Dennis, Annie assisted in the Clothing Store Ministry weekly. Her generosity caused her to respond to family, friends, and others providing for them during good times and bad.

After the death of her husband Willie B. Porter, Annie started a new series of fun adventures with her most valued, loving friend, Al Twine. Annie often stated, “I don’t know what I’d do without my friend, Al.” Annie and her husband were good friends with Al and his wife for more than forty years. After the death of their spouses, Al and Annie maintained their friendship. Together they enjoyed many journeys and activities. Patient, thoughtful, and kind, Al was always there. As Annie’s health declined, Al was ever faithful and always there taking her to medical appointments, providing meals and making sure her remaining days were comfortable with her most trusted friend.

On November 22, 2015 the Lord took Annie L. Porter to her eternal home. She is survived by her sister, Ressie Taylor, her son Fred, two grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. While she was here, she left her impression on the world. You will be missed Annie L. Porter.
