Mr. William Collier “Honey” Ratliff, Jr., 96 years of age, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021. William was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him.
He lived a very active life having worked for ACIPCO (American Cast Iron and Pipe Company). He was an active member of Irondale United Methodist Church serving in many areas of leadership across the years. He enjoyed mission work with local congregations serving through Volunteers in Mission, a ministry of the United Methodist Church. Earlier in his life he was an active leader in Boy Scouts of America, Troop 57, Birmingham Area Council as well as a member of The Order of the Arrow. He was a member of the Masonic Order for over 60 years. His faith in Christ and his compassion for others guided his entire life.
For over 30 years William “Honey” was a member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club and traveled extensively over the United States and Canada. He enjoyed a number of hobbies and lived his life in a manner that made the lives of those he met better.
Honey was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Carolyn Ratliff; parents, William Sr. and Gertrude Ratliff of Irondale, Alabama; and his eldest son, William Ratliff III (Phyllis). He is survived by his sons, Fred Ratliff (Debbie) and Michael Ratliff (Brenda); seven (7) grandchildren and eleven (11) great grandchildren.
A graveside Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Friday, February 19th at Forest Crest Cemetery in Irondale, AL beginning at 1:00 pm followed by a time of “Fellowship and Visitation” to be held at Irondale United Methodist Church, 400 Deering Street, Irondale, AL 35210. Reverend David Holmes and Reverend Mike Spivey will conduct the service.
Pallbearers: James Butler, Lane Lackey, James Ratliff, Will Ratliff, John Baker, Shane Thomas; and Honorary Pallbearer: J.W. McDanal.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Irondale United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.
