William Ernest Fullington, 88, of Birmingham, AL departed this life on March 4, 2016. Most of his life was dedicated to helping others to live a better life through growing closer to God. He was author of his book “The Divine Appointments of Mr. Sunshine” which outlines some of his spiritual encounters. He was a devoted husband to Billie Joyce Vines (deceased) for 44 years and to his current wife of 18 years Iris Lee Gross. He is survived by his sons, Stephen Randall Fullington, William Kent Fullington, Sr., and Richard Blane Fullington; his step-sons Michael Scott Gross and Henry David Gross (Patricia), his grandchildren William Kent Fullington, Jr., Richard Nicholas Fullington (Laura), William Jason Fullington, Julianne Eve Gross and Kendra Whitney Gross; his great grandchildren Aidan Nicholas and Liam Asher Fullington; and his brothers Edward Lanier Fullington and Lawrence Tatum Fullington, Jr. He is preceded in death by his sister Virginia Fullington Brasseit and his step-brother Albert Rule Maus. Bill was a former insurance agent with Metropolitan Life (5 years) making “Honor Club” designation and was promoted to manager of their Gadsden, AL office. He later worked for the Prudential Insurance Co. and was the first agent in America to sell over one million dollars of insurance in less than 6 months. He worked for them for 12 years. Bill became a home builder in Birmingham for 29 years. He was president of Walington Developers, Inc. and later VP. He was president of Fullington Building Co. and Metro Gutter Co., and was president of Southern Home Building Seminars, LLC. Bill was many other things. He was an amateur champion ballroom dancer, an inventor, a motivational speaker, a college teacher, land developer, and an artist. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and treasurer of Barry High School Athletic Association. Bill will be laid to rest on Saturday, March 12th at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel (800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211). Visitation is at 1pm, followed by service at 2pm.
