Vivian Herrington Smith, age 92 & resident of Town Village, Vestavia Hills, died peacefully at home, Tuesday, November 18, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving children, Vicky & James Davis, Joan & Larry Wimberly of Birmingham and Jennifer & John Ruscilli of Woodstock, GA. Vivian is survived by four grandchildren, Lee Wimberly, Leah Wimberly Willoughby, Laine Ruscilli Wickless and Laura Ruscilli, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Bobbie Herrington of Brewton, AL and Nell Herrington of Bogalusa, LA and an extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews. Vivian's husband, Dr. John L. Smith, parents, Mr. & Mrs. E.M. Herrington and brothers, James Herrington & Buddy Herrington preceded her in death. Born in Brewton, AL, Vivian's life was one of service. She was a devoted Christian, a godly mother and helpmate with her husband in the gospel ministry for 55 years. Vivian was a member of Mt. Philadelphia Baptist Church, Cordova, and was actively involved in Christian ministries at Town Village. She was an encourager, a comfort and point of light to her family and friends. Vivian enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, teaching, working jigsaw puzzles and generously supported global missions. Her life was a testimony and sermon of goodness, kindness and love to everyone. A celebration service will be held Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Lakeside Baptist Church, 2865 Old Rocky Ridge Rd., Birmingham, at 12:00 noon with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Vivian requested gifts to a Christian mission/ministry in her memory. The family is grateful to Lakeside Hospice, Pell City, for their special care and to a host of family and friends for their acts of love. Private entombment will follow the service at Elmwood Mausoleum. Arrangements under the direction of Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel, Birmingham, AL.
