Irondale - Virginia Irene Stewart died February 5, 2022 at Ascension St. Vincent East Hospital in Birmingham, AL. She was born January 1, 1933 in Gainesboro, TN. She was the daughter of Hebert Allen and Hazel Peek.
Virginia graduated from Gainesboro High School, Gainesboro, TN.
Following high school she moved to Washington DC., where-in she worked for the Federal Government.
Not long after returning to Gainesboro, she then moved to, and lived with, her sister and brother-in-law Frances and Leroy Nash in Atlanta, GA.
While living in Atlanta, Virginia worked as the Educational Director of one the local Baptist Churches.
After-which, her brother-in-law, sister and she, moved to New Orleans, LA.
Virginia’s brother-in-law and she attended New Orleans Theological Baptist Seminary.
While in a biblical bible book seminary classroom at New Orleans Theological Seminary, Virginia meet, dated and married her lifelong husband: Rev. W. Tom Stewart.
While Tom was pastoring in Brunswick, GA.,Virginia was honored by being bestowed the Southern Baptist Convention’s position of Georgia’s State WMU (Women’s Missionary Union’s) Director.
Again, while Tom was pastoring in Birmingham, AL, Virginia was privilege to acquire the position as secretary for Ms. Alma Hunt. The Southern Baptist Convention’s Convention-wide WMU’s Director - in the Southern Baptist Convention’s Convention-wide Office in Downtown Birmingham.
While serving in that capacity, Virginia was bestowed yet another honor. She was privileged to sit beside Ms. Alma Hunt, while Ms. Hunt was fortunate enough to conduct a personal interview with, one of, the Southern Baptist Convention’s most prestigious foreign missionary: Ms. Latte Moon.
Further, Virginia acquired the position of personal secretary of a Lieutenant Colonel in Birmingham’s chapter of the Salvation Army.
Lastly, after changing her career’s employment position from that of a secretary to a restaurant manager, Virginia held the title of manager and area supervisor of several chain restaurants - with-in and around the Birmingham area.
Virginia was predeceased by her father and mother: Herbert Allen and Hazel Peek. Virginia’s Son and daughter-in-law: Stephen and Margaret Stewart. Virginia’s daughter: Pamela Stewart-Giles. Virginia’s sister and brother-in-law: Frances and Leroy Nash. And, Virginia’s nice and nephew: Donna and Phillip Nash.
Virginia has two surviving sons and daughters-in-laws: Scott and Beverly Stewart. Denis and Joby Moore.
Six grandchildren and five grandchildren-in-laws: Steven and Abba Stewart, Jenny and Frank Larkin, April and Vincent Mendoza, Thomas Giles, Raymond and Lori Moore and Patricia and Justin Wright. Nine great-grandchildren. Logan, Kymberlie and Lathan Mendoza, Leighilah Giles and Liana and Olivia Stewart, Annakate Larkin and a tenth addition, forth-coming, into the Wright’s househole.
Do to such a life-lived legacy, Saturday, February 12th, at Grantswood Church in Irondale, AL: family, friends, church members and visitors, will gather together for the purpose of celebrating the life, accomplishments and legacy of a GREAT wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, well lived Christian and TRUE Proverbs 31 Women - Virginia Irene Peek Stewart. So, please come and join-in on this AWESOME celebration.
A visitation for VIRGINIA will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Grantswood Baptist Church, 4850 Grantswood Pl, Irondale,, AL 35210, followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
