Sadie Elizabeth Andrews Hawkins, 95, of Birmingham, passed away on November 5, 2024. Beth, as she was known by family and friends was born on July 24, 1929 in Columbus, Mississippi. She grew up in both Columbus and Natchez, and told of taking walks as a child in Natchez to watch the construction of the bridge over the Mississippi River. Beth moved to Birmingham following high school graduation to attend the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing. She graduated as a registered nurse and worked for 50 years as a nurse in several Birmingham hospitals. She married William Hawkins (Bill) in October, 1950 and they celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on October 8, 2024. Beth was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was active in her church at First Baptist Trussville and previously Eastside Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, worked in Bible School, and held offices in the WMU group. As a retiree, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed reading as a hobby, traveled to all fifty states, and a few countries. Most of all she enjoyed her family and being with them for family events.
Beth is survived by her husband, Bill; daughters, Melanie Manzella (Al), Cyndi Winslett (Mike); son in law, Ken Corcoran; eight grandchildren, Christina and Angela Manzella, Blake, Josh, and Zach Corcoran, Drew, Tyler, and Hannah Winslett; eight great-grandchildren, and one on the way. She joins in Heaven, those who preceded her: daughter, Beverly Corcoran; infant son, Billy; parents, Walter and Marguerite Andrews; and sister, Marguerite Cooper.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church, Trussville, November 8, 2024 at 1:00, followed by memorial service at 2:00.
