Richard Gordon

Richard O. Gordon, born February 15, 1935, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the age of 87. Richard was a lifelong resident of Birmingham and attended Edgewood Elementary, Shades Valley High School and Auburn University. He retired after 33 years of service in law enforcement and then began a new career with St. Vincent’s Hospital where he worked for 13 years.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Margaret Gordon and his brother, Julian (Bud) Gordon. He is survived by the love of his life of 46 years, Jennifer; one sister, Margaret Becker; two sons: Richard K. Gordon and Randal Gordon; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard loved the Lord, loved to laugh and loved to make others laugh. He marveled at nature and was in awe of God’s power and all his creations. He was a great story teller and those who knew him usually had a favorite story of his to share with others. He always enjoyed and looked forward to family gatherings and spending time with friends. He loved the church and was a member of Lakeside Baptist since 1994. We have many joyful memories of Richard and our lives have been enriched for having known and loved him. Our hearts grieve for our loss and we will always miss him, but heaven rejoices for its gain!

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Lakeside Baptist Church, 2865 Old Rocky Ridge Road, Birmingham, AL 35243.

His funeral service will be held Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Lakeside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 PM until service time at the church. Richard will be buried at Cedar Tree Cemetery in Hackleburg, Alabama.
