Peggy Joyce (Scivley) Moss was born on April 22, 1930 to Delmar Cole Scivley and Thelma (Anders) Scivley in Birmingham (Ensley), AL. She passed away peacefully on February 10, 2021 in Birmingham (Riverchase), AL.
Peggy grew up the youngest of four children. She graduated from Ensley High School, where she met her future husband Stanley Russell Moss (Woody). Peggy and Woody where married on October 14, 1950. They were married for 26 years until his untimely death in December 1976.
She was predeceased by her three siblings, Delmar Cole Scivley (D.C.), Ola Bernice Scivley McRae, and Elsie Scivley McDonald. Peggy is survived by her two sons, Russell Allen Moss (Allen - wife Miriam) and David Lee Moss. In addition, Peggy has six grandchildren: Dan Master (Jamie), Ciara Wanta (AJ), Savanna Moss, Elizabeth Moss, Lee Moss, and Amber Harwood (Logan), and many nieces/nephews and grand nieces/nephews.
Peggy worked at Union Carbide Corporation for the better part of 20 years until the birth of her children. She returned to work for Union Carbide after the loss of her husband. Later, she worked as a bookkeeper for Alpha Lumber for many years until she retired well into her senior years.
Peggy never met a stranger, was loved by all, and was always very generous to those she knew. She was very talented in the kitchen, always trying new recipes from around the world. She would often take these dishes to share with co-workers and neighbors. A voracious reader, a weekly trip to the library was always on the agenda. Her favorite tomes consisted of history and biography. She was most happy at the beach, and if she had a book at the beach that was the epitome of bliss.
Peggy’s absence will leave us all wanting to see her smile one more time; in the meantime we will celebrate the lifetime of memories that will remain with us forever. Services will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Elmwood Chapel. Viewing from 10:00-11:00 CST, with service to follow immediately.
