Patsy Kinnard Webb Bailey, Ed.D. 82 of Vestavia Hills passed away Tuesday, September 24 at home. She was preceded in death by her youngest son Dick Bailey, brother Dick Webb Jr. and parents Patsy and Dick Webb Sr. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Jackson (Jack) B. Bailey, son Arthur F. (Ric) Bailey and wife Debra of Reno Nevada, daughter Patti Bailey Howell and husband Billy. Grandchildren: Ana Gabrielle Bailey ofTacoma, Wa, William Patrick Howell, Elizabeth Bailey Howell of Birmingham. Sister Belle Webb Cheatham; nieces Laura McKee Harlin, Jane Cheatham Megginson, Laura Webb Newman, Cheri Webb Jordan, nephew Kinn Webb, four great nieces, five great nephews, five great great nephews; many cousins and friends. Born in Mobile, Al. July 11, 1931, and grew up in Birmingham. Dr. Bailey graduated from Ensley High School in 1950. She attended Auburn University (API) for a time and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. After transferring to the University of Alabama she graduated with Bachelors and Masters degrees in Secondary Education. She later earned her Doctorate in Education Administration from the University. Dr. Bailey taught elementary school in Birmingham for many years, and then went on to serve in Personnel Administration at the Birmingham Board of Education. She worked several years as Director of Personnel for the Bibb County Ga. (Macon) School System until her retirement. She was very active in many professional organizations and enjoyed helping children and young people at any opportunity. Dr. Bailey was a born again Christian having been baptized early in life as a Methodist. In recent years she became a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church and enjoyed the fellowship of her Homesteaders Sunday School class. She and Jack enjoyed many years of extensive travel in the states as well as overseas. They were fortunate to take trips to many countries in the Middle East and the Far East. They also lived 2 years in post-war Germany and traveled to other European countries while Jack served in the US Army. Patsy did extensive work in keeping her Ensley High School graduating class together for many reunions and periodic luncheons. All class members cherished and thanked her for taking the time to plan and organize these activities. She will be greatly missed by all of these long time friends and lifetime associates that she made, as well as her loving family.
