Obara M Tchaas was born on September 22, 1950 to Mary Walker and the late Morgan Cochran,
He was educated in the Fallsburg school system in Syracuse, NY. After high school Obara worked for Chrysler automotive for 15 years in Syracuse, NY. Obara later joined the U.S Army in 1980 and was honorably discharged in 1985. He then when to work for Rain Forest Health and wellness until his illness.
Obara, was known for his non-stop talking and love of people never meeting a stranger. Obara was also an avid chess player, fisher, reader of books and love of art, dancing and singing.
Obara, was preceded in death by his father Morgan Cochran, Brothers Willie Cochran and Eddie Cochran. He leaves to cherish his loving Mother Mary Walker of Rock Hill South Carolina, His wife of 40 years Makeda Tchaas of Birmingham, Al, Sons Quran Ziyad, Ameer (Erica) Cochran of Syracuse, NY, Negausi Ziyad and Ismail Ziyad of Mobile, Al, daughters Consuella Caldwell of Orlando, Fl, Aiesha of Birmingham, Al, sisters, Rose Sledge, Patrica Johnson and Neva Sledge, and a host of special grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
A celebration of life gathering for Obara will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM, 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, Alabama 35235. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL.
