Mary Ann Howard Worley, widow of C.W. “Bill” Worley, completed her earthly journey, May 22, 2022. Mary was born and raised in Chattanooga, TN. She came to Birmingham in 1948 and worked as a secretary for several companies until she and her husband opened Anchor Insurance Agency in 1954 in the Brown-Marx Building. Later they moved into the then brand new Bank for Savings Building, and in late 60’s moved to Hoover.
In addition to her husband of 55 years, she was predeceased by their first son, Mark Judson Worley; parents, Mary Born Howard and Robert Lee Howard; brothers, John N. Howard (Gloria) and Robert Lee Howard, Jr. (Evelyn); and sister Catherine Mortillaro (Gus).
Survivors are daughters Lisa Worley of Hoover, AL and Denise Reynolds, M.D. (Pete) of Purvis, MS; son, Mark Worley II of Macon, GA; granddaughters, Lt. Commander Sarah Elizabeth Taylor (Joe) of San Diego, CA, Mary Catherine Huff, D.M.D. (Shannon) of Madison, MS, Elizabeth Henderson of Birmingham, AL; and grandson, David Henderson (Alex) of Birmingham, AL; great grandchildren, Cameron Taylor, Bailey Taylor, Jace Henderson, Charlotte Henderson, and Emma Henderson. There are many cousins, nieces and nephews, and good friends who were special to her - Helen Lee Fisk, Sherry Wilson, Susan Barnett, Marion Gamble, and Jenny Crooks.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the caregivers at Aspire of Hoover, especially, Robin and Aresia.
Mary has been a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church since 1959. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, Homewood, AL.
A visitation will be Sunday, May 29, 2022 at 1:30 pm at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel; with a celebration of Mary’s life following at 2 pm.
