Mary Etta McCollum Long Pair Mayo, 91, life-long Birmingham resident, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 15, 2014, in Ocala, Florida. The second daughter of Judson Clemons McCollum and Lera Marian Stephens, she was born March 9, 1923, in Ft Payne, Alabama. She resided in Ocala only since February, where she moved to be closer to her family.
Mary Etta attended Kennedy Elementary School and Woodlawn High School (class of 1941). A member of PACE, she was an extremely talented artist who enjoyed oil painting. She was a long-time member of Woodlawn Christian Church and currently a member of South Roebuck Baptist Church. Mary Etta loved rooting for the Auburn Tiger football team, watching golf on TV, and being a member of The Club.
She was predeceased by husbands Johnny Thomas Long Sr and Robert Monroe Pair Sr; sister Evalyn Louise McCollum Stanley; son Johnny Thomas Long Jr; and grandchildren John David Long and Diane Kathleen Long.
Left to treasure memories of her are her son David Franklin Long (Marci); grandchildren Dena Long and Denise Long Gallagher (Bill); great grandchildren John Dylan, Lauren, Jordan, Logan, Thea, and Eli; John Clarence Mayo Jr; cousins, nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be Friday, March 21, 2014 from 6 to 8pm, Ridout’s Trussville Chapel, Alabama. Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, March 22, 2014, Ridout’s Trussville Chapel, with Pastor Chris Crain officiating. Interment will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Birmingham, AL.
