Mary Louise Daly Herrin, 92, of Irondale, Alabama, died peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter, of Robert William Daly and Vena Holliman Daly Buchheit, and a lifelong resident of Irondale.
After graduating from Woodlawn High School, she was honored to be crowned “Miss Irondale” in 1949. Mary attended Howard College (now Samford University) where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. While there, she met and married Elliott Clayton Herrin, Jr. Together, they enjoyed 64 years of marriage as they raised their four children. For over 43 years, Mary worked daily alongside EC in his law practice. When he lost his vision due to AMD, she helped him maintain his practice, and truly never left his side.
Mary was the matriarch of the family. She loved to entertain and hosted countless parties, including many family reunions, church social events, and many other special occasions over the years. She was an early member of Irondale United Methodist Church, Yellowhammer Garden Club, and a fiercely loyal Alabama football fan. She attended football games with her family well into her nineties. She loved traveling and enjoyed many fun trips with extended family. She was a creative artist and enjoyed drawing, quilting, and watching her birds. One of her favorite memories included driving her car on the Talladega Speedway. Recently, after selling her beloved home of 54 years, she moved to Orange Beach to live with her daughter, Linda, who took great care of her for the past two years.
