The sun rose on the life of Lionel Moore on October 11, 1948, when born to Cleveland Moore Sr. & Mildred Moore. He grew up on the Southside of Birmingham with his brothers Cleveland Jr. & Lorenzo, then moved to the Smithfield area where he completed school and was a graduate of A. H. Parker High School “Thundering Herd”. After high school Lionel served in the Army and deployed to Vietnam in the 926th Engineer Combat Battalion. He was a Staff Sergeant E6 and received an Honorable Discharge. Lionel continued service in the Army Reserve in Birmingham and retired from the military with 21 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 347 in Fairfield, AL. Lionel worked for US Steel Pipe Mill in Fairfield, AL. & retired with over 20 years on the job. Lionel married his soulmate, Cathy in June 1981, a union that stood the test of time, 43 years. With their daughter Chandra they made their home in Birmingham, then moved to Pleasant Grove to a home filled with children, laughter, & lots of love. Lionel, affectionately called Grump by his grandkids for over 20 years, was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin, uncle, and friend. He was happiest sitting on a blanket on the floor with grandkids Alexia & Ashley climbing all over him when little then dressing him, so he looked “cool” around their friends when older. He loved racing with great-grandson “little buddy” Kason in the back yard, teaching him to play baseball and laughing at his corny jokes. He adored little Kehlani when he held her & she would give him a big toothless grin. Playing with the kids, grilling & blasting R&B with family & friends were his happiest times. Having fun, & cooking for family was his “Love Language.” The sun set on Lionel’s life on November 13, 2024. Celebrating his life are his wife Cathy, brother Cleveland(Lynn), daughter Chandra, son Patrick(Shondi), grands Alexia, Ashley, Kason, & Kehlani, sisters Delphene, Linda, & Martha, Aunt Ruth, in-laws Lydia, Tina, Maria, Sonya, Nina, Jonathan, Nurissa, nephews James(Porcia), Mike(Anne), Butch(Wanda) & Noah, nieces Victoria(Atokie) & Olivia, & many other cousins, relatives & friends.
