Linda retired from O’Neal Steel where she was employed for 35 years and was a long-time member of the Professional Secretaries International (PSI).
She was a life-long member of St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church and was very active in the St. Elias Ladies Altar Society.
Linda was born in 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama, the only daughter of Labebie and Joseph Habshey. She had nine brothers, all but one being older. On Easter morning in 1927 when Linda was born, the congregation broke out in applause when the priest announced that Labebie had finally had a little girl. Linda, as she was always called, was named “Lindy” in honor of Charles Lindbergh’s first solo transatlantic flight. All of her brothers pre-deceased her-Fawzi, and a brother who died in infancy, Norman, John (Lefty), Edward, Joe, twins, Nade and Wade, and younger brother, Herbert. They remained close all of their lives.
Linda attended Ramsay High School, UAB, and Jeff State. After graduating from high school in May, 1945, Linda held a civil service job with the Air Force, then went to work for Liberty National Life Insurance Company until joining O’Neal Steel.
Linda was always a friendly and outgoing person who was fun to be around whether at work, at home, or at school. She is fondly remembered by all of her cousins, nieces and nephews as well as her husband’s nieces, and her friends for the good times she shared with them. Linda was key to the family grapevine and family get-togethers.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation Monday, November 14, 2022 at 10 am at St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church, followed by a service to celebrate Linda’s life and legacy at 11 am. Burial will be at Birmingham's historic Elmwood Cemetery in block 32.
In lieu of flowers, it is Linda’s wish that contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
