Kimberly Beth (Jackson) Atkinson, 31, of Birmingham, AL passed away on April 9, 2015 at Princeton Medical Center, surrounded by friends and family. Kim is survived by her husband Kirk Atkinson, her father Thomas Jackson, and Grandfathers Dema Jackson and Don Gourd. Kim is preceded in death by her mother Terrie Drewry, half-brother Matthew Arrellanes, and Grandmothers Vivian Gourd and Iva Jackson. Kim was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in September of 1983. She spent most of her early life in Harrison, AR where she was a cheerleader and homecoming queen at Bergman High School. She went on to earn a degree in Computer Science from Missouri State and started working in Kansas City, KS. She met future husband Kirk while traveling, fell in love and eventually moved to be with him in Birmingham. Soon after moving, she was hired as a Sr. Consultant for Summit Technology working mostly for Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. Kim was an amazing wife, daughter, and friend to everyone. She loved to travel and experience different cultures through food and cooking. Most of all, she enjoyed throwing dinner parties and sharing her culinary experiences with friends and family. Her character was that of kindness and positivity and she always had patience and strength in the most challenging situations. What Kim lacked in longevity, she made up in intensity. A memorial service will be held at Johns-Ridout's Chapel, 2116 University Blvd in Birmingham on April 18, 2015 at 11:00am with visitation beginning at 10:00am. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the ASPCA.
