Karen Domit Stephens, 66, born on July 28, 1953, went peacefully to be with Our Lord on August 14, 2019. She is survived by her adoring husband of 46 years, Harold “Hixie” Robert Stephens; her four children, Dana Travis (Jonathan), Nathan Stephens (Lori), Kimberly Stephens, Natalie Slovensky (Ryan); as well as 6 grandchildren, Jackson, Milton Ryder, and Taje Travis, Hudson, Gloria Karen and John Domit Slovensky; along with her brother, Milton “Bud” Domit. Karen also leaves behind a large extended family of brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rebecca and Milton Domit. Karen attended John Carroll Catholic High School, the University of Alabama and UAB. Karen and Hixie’s relationship was a beautiful example of dedication to one another through family, faith and love. She walked through each day with such grace and shared her infectious love of life and faith in God’s will with each and every person around her. Her daily devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary was the source of guidance in her life and her relationship with the Mother of Jesus Christ was one that she passed down to her children. Karen relished in hosting and celebrating her family and friends at their home, from ordinary to extraordinary events. Karen never met a stranger and drew you in with her magnetic spirit and you knew she was genuinely invested in her love for you. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her contagious laugh and the best (most memorable) kisses. She was a long time, active member at St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church and an integral part of the Ladies' Altar Society, where she carried on her mother’s annual fundraising event, which supports the Sisters of the Holy Cross Orphanage in Hrajan, Lebanon. She was a proud member of the Order of St. Sharbel, Her Choice, Teams of Our Lady, Alabama Symphony/Decorators’ Showhouse, L’Amicale, SERTOMA, 3L Club, a Phi Mu alumni, and volunteered her time in many other ways. Alongside her husband, they started their company, Stephens General Contracting, Inc. where she was VP. We will celebrate Karen’s life at St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church on Friday, August 16th with a visitation beginning at 4:30pm followed by the Rosary at 7:00pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elias on Saturday, August 17th at 10:00am with the rite of burial at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association: Alabama Chapter at 2151 Highland Avenue S., Suite 210, B’ham, AL 35205.
