Joyce A Wood

Joyce Ann Wood, 79, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2021. She was born on September 8, 1941 in Homewood, Alabama, to Marie Hopkins Wood and Claude Edward Wood, and was a beloved twin sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Dr. Claude Edward Wood Jr. Joyce is survived by her loving twin brother Ronald Lamar Wood (Kerin); nieces June Wood LeCroy, Barbara Wood Fash, Elizabeth Wood Gresham; nephews Claude Edward Wood III, Ronald Lamar Wood, Jr., John Patrick Wood; six great nieces and two great nephews.

“Aunt Juice” was greatly loved by her family and friends, and her sweet spirit will be missed. Joyce graduated from Hewitt High School in 1959 and from Auburn University in 1964. She was a devoted first grade teacher for 26 years at Center Point Elementary and a member of Huffman Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held for immediate family only. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please make donations in Joyce’s memory to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society or to the charity of your choice.
