Joyce was born on February 1, 1941, in Jefferson County, daughter of Auburn and Lexie Grey; stepmother Ruby Grey. She was a graduate of Minor High School and attended Birmingham Southern. She received her nursing degree from Carraway Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She served as a registered nurse, spending much of her time in internal medicine at Norwood Clinic. For most of her life, she served as a church pianist with many area churches including Fultondale UMC, Tabernacle UMC and Union Chapel Baptist Church. During retirement, Joyce loved to travel, cook, and read. She devoted time to family, church, friends, and quilting projects. She was a member of Cullman First Baptist Church.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband and constant companion of 58 years, John O. Marlin and her beautiful granddaughter, Dylan (Austin) Tilles. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother Royce (Terry) Grey.
Survivors include her daughter, Kim Marlin of Blountsville; daughter, Cindy (Scott) Tew of Mooresville, NC; and son, Greg (Danette) Marlin of Trussville, along with seven grandchildren: Cameron (Hannah) Marlin, Justin Marlin, Simon (Whitney) Wilding, Katherine (Logan) Mosley, Meagan Marlin, Kaili Marlin; Isaac Tew and four great-grandchildren, John David Marlin, Noah Marlin, Alice Tilles and Paige Mosley. She is also survived by brothers David (Kathleen) Grey and Jimmy (Gwen) Grey and stepsister, Gloria Jones as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel from 10:00AM until the funeral service at 11:00AM, Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL. A private interment service will be held at a later date.
