John “Jack” Anthon Hand, Jr., 87, of Mountain Brook, Al, peacefully went to be with the Lord on July 10, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife, Charlsie Fay Hand, family and friends. The Memorial Service will be on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Briarwood Presbyterian Church. Visitation at 1:00 p.m. and Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m., graveside service will follow for the family at Elmwood Cemetery.
Jack was born on January 1, 1935, in Birmingham, Al to the late Eula Elizabeth and John A. Hand. He attended Sewanee Military Academy and graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1953. Jack then attended seminary at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, before obtaining a degree in Finance from the University of Alabama, where he was President of Phi Delta Theta. Then he spent seven years in the National Guard serving our country.
Jack spent the majority of his career as a Senior Financial Advisor and Vice President at Merrill Lynch. He was a member of the Birmingham Rotary Club and Birmingham Country Club. However, Jack’s passion was the ministry, and he dedicated his life to sharing Christ with everyone he met.
Jack served on several boards, including World Wide Tract Ministry, Southeastern Bible College, Hear O Israel, and Globeworks International. Jack was a founding member of Shades Mountain Bible Church, where he served as deacon and elder. Most recently, Jack was heavily involved in Evangelism Explosion at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, where he was also a member.
Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Charlsie Fay Hand; children John Anthon Hand, III (Leigh); Alexander Gibson Hand (Emily); Andrea Hand Koski; and Charles Alan Hand (Leslie). He is survived by 14 grandchildren: Amelia Hand Farrar; Alexander Gibson Hand, Jr; John Anthon Hand, IV; Madeline Grace Hand; Frances Elizabeth Hand; Emily Kathleen Hand; Charlsie Elizabeth Koski; Chloe Alexandria Koski; Samuel Colin Hand; Elizabeth Lynn Hand, Mary Parker Frank; Bradford David Lepik, Jr; Elizabeth Leary Drummond; Merriwether Bennett Drummond, and two great grandchildren.
The family would like to give special thanks to Calandra and Nelson Posey and the caregivers who attended Jack in his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite mission or to the Missions Ministry at Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
