Mr. John faithfully served in the United States Army, with an honorable discharge. John was a faithful member of Groveland Baptist Church for many years and served with dignity. John also retired from Dobbs House at Birmingham Airport after 43 years of service.
Our beloved John, a man of greater character, known for his kindness, helpfulness, and neighborly spirit. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and his generosity knew no bounds.
Mr. John Cooper passed away July 9, 2023. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Bennings; two sisters, Mrs. Richella B. Beddiford, and Mrs. Margret B. Short; a niece, Thelma Louise Williams (Squeaky). He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving niece, Mrs. Harriett Byrd; a brother in-law, Mr. Melvin Short; a special friend, Ms. Virginia Evans; and a host of great nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will receive friends in the lobby of Johns Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 10 am until 11 am . A celebration of John’s life will follow at 11 am at the chapel. He will be interred at Birmingham’s historic Elmwood Cemetery in block 39.
