GOLDSTEIN, MR. JOEL, age 81, of Birmingham, died Tuesday, November 5, 2024. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse School of Business. Joel began his career with Golbro, an approximately 100-year-old family business. Later in his career, he became a Morgan Stanley financial advisor. He and his partners were then recruited by Merrill Lynch, which he retired from as a Senior Vice President. He was an active member in several civic organizations. His greatest love was sports, especially Alabama football (for which his blood ran Crimson) and UAB basketball.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents, Hannah and Hyman H. Goldstein. He is survived by his wife, Debra H. Goldstein; children, Stephanie (Brad) Brooker, Mark (Rachel Howard) Goldstein, Jennifer (Kevin) Feld, and Stephen (Hillary) Goldstein; seven grandchildren, Hayden Brooker, Hannah Brooker, Abigail Howard, Eliza Feld, Aiden Feld, Milly Goldstein, and Jackson Goldstein; sister Marilyn (Murray) Tanner, sister-in-law, Michelle Stern, and several nephews and nieces.
Private Burial will be Friday, November 8, 2024. A public Memorial Service, followed by a luncheon, will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 2100 Highland Avenue, Birmingham, Alabama 35205. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hannah and Hyman Goldstein Volunteer Fund at Temple Emanuel, P.O.
