James “Riley” Hogan, age 85, of Odenville went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 25, 2023. Riley was born on November 7, 1938 to Benny Chester Hogan and Ruby Emaline Harrison. He attended Phillips High School. Riley was a member of Fairview Freewill Baptist Church for over 19 years. He enjoyed singing and fishing. He was a talented carpenter. Riley had a giving heart; he never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. Riley was a loving husband and father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Hogan; his parents, and a brothers, Gerald Hogan and Ben Hogan; his sister, Betty Mixson, and a brother-in-law, Charles Mixon.
Riley is survived by his loving wife of 19 year, Nita Hogan; his children, James R “JR” Hogan; a grandson, Christian Hogan; two sisters, Mary Parsons and Ann Clough (David); his step children, Stacey Brown (Ken) and Kevin Hawthorne; four step grandchildren, Austin Robinson, Micaela Collins (Stephen), Trent Robinson, and Kinsley Robinson. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A funeral service for Riley will be held at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel on Thursday, December 28th at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation held one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the chapel service at Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale. Pastor Tommy Wright will be officiating.
