.Born December 9, 1936, Jerry went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on March 5, 2015. He is preceeded in death by Parents Jack and Hazel Wilson and Sister Margueritte Watson. The Wilson Family attended Doctrinal Studies Bible Church where he served as Deacon. Wilson is survived by Wife Jean Burton Wilson; Daughters Jeanne Wilson and Jennifer Wilson McCraw (Larry); Grandchildren Addy and Wilson McCraw; and Brother Kenneth Wilson (Karen); Sisters-in-Law Irene Collins (Hank), Pamela Luker (Tommy), Susan Harkins (Lee), Becky Riha (Ray); Brothers-in-Law Jack Burton (Lynne), Ben Burton and many nephews and nieces.
Jerry grew up in Birmingham, attended Phillips High School and graduated from Auburn University. He was a member of the Auburn 1957 National Championship Team, was selected to the All SEC and pre- season and All American teams. After graduating from Auburn, Jerry played professional football for many years, being a member of the Philadelphia Eagles 1960 NFL Championship team, the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL and finishing his career with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football league. In 2008, Jerry was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. In addition to his personal athletic accomplishments, Wilson served as the Lakeshore Foundation's weightlifting coach where he was proud to have coached his daughter Jeanne to three World Weight Lifting Championships and 12 national championships.
Wilson was a former member of the Air National Guard. Other interests included Wilson's love for hunting and fishing where he served on the Conservation Board during Governor Fob James' Administration. Wilson continued his love of animals and regularly volunteered at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
Wilson's love for children and people always showed. His biggest love was saved for his family and friends and his precious grandchildren, Addy and Wilson.
Funeral Services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Monday March 9, 2015 visitation at 9:00, service at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the Lakeshore Foundation or Greater Birmingham Humane Society in Homewood, Alabama. His teammates from the Auburn 1957 National Championship Team will serve him as Honorary Pallbearers.
