On August 5, 2020, Fred Randall Barron of Birmingham, AL passed away at the age of 87. Fred was born on May 24, 1933 in Troy, AL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Ben J Barron, and two children, Bruce Wayne Barron and Regina Barron Bearley. He is survived by his wife, Norma Lyons Barron, and four children, Karen Frances Kirby (Neal), Sharon Lynn Lowe, Fred Randall (Buddy) Barron Jr., and Ruby Jo Anderson, plus several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fred attended Jones Valley High School in Birmingham, AL. Upon graduation, he began proudly serving his country in the military. Fred was a 42-year veteran of the Alabama Army National Guard. He retired as a Master Sergeant in the 167th Materiel Management Center and served tours in the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the U.S. Invasion of Panama, and Operation Desert Storm. Fred was an active Shriner with the Zamora Shriners of Central Alabama where he served in the clown unit, transportation unit, and trailblazers. His other memberships included the Masonic Lodge and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and especially visiting children, as “Gumpy” the clown, at Children’s Hospital. Fred was a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church. A private family graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In Fred’s memory, In-lieu-of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Zamora Shriners, 3521 Ratliff Road, Irondale, AL 35210.
