Parsons, Frank R, age 72 of Birmingham passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013 after a hard fought battle with Lou Gehrig disease (ALS). Believing that “service to humanity” is the best work of life, “Frank devoted much of his time and resources to many charitable organizations. He was a long time member of McElwain Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher and Director, Trustee and Moderator. He traveled to Israel, Africa and Ireland on several occasions doing Missionary work. He was an Alabama Jaycee serving as state president and a National Vice President. He served as Chairman of the Birmingham Housing Authority, was President of United Cerebral Palsy, Kings Ranch and March of Dimes. He was Chairman of the Birmingham Bicentennial Committee in 1976.
He was a graduate of Baylor Military Academy and the University of Alabama. He received his law degree from Alabama and practiced law for over 50 years. He was an avid tennis player having played on the University of Alabama Tennis Team and until his illness played tournament tennis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kate C. Parsons and Frank Lee Parsons; brother, Fred E. Parsons; nephew, Fred Lee Parsons. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nona Hagan Parsons; children, Paige P. Burnett, Dr. Frank R. (Jennifer) Parsons, Jr. and Shannon P. (Josh) Dennis; 8 grandchildren, Hagan and Hampton Burnett, Walker, Kathryn Ruth and Mary Grace Parsons, Will Parsons Tarter, Anderson and Thomas Dennis. A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at McElwain Baptist Church, 4445 Montevallo Road Birmingham, AL. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Officiating will be Dr. Wallace Henley, Dr. Jody Baker and Dr. Joby Triquett.
