Edward Douglas Humphrey Sr. of Remlap, Alabama went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the age of 78. Ed, affectionately referred to as ‘Mr. Wonderful’ by all who loved him, was born the youngest of two children (sister Sandra Underwood) in Murphy, North Carolina, to parents Exer Reithmauier and Howard Leon Humphrey, on May 28, 1942. He was married to his wife, Sandra Humphrey, on February 10, 1961. Together, they shared 60 wonderful years and have four children: Douglas Humphrey Jr (Tracie), Linda Perryman (Larry), Richard Humphrey (Angel), & Becky Hudson (Timmy). Although Ed did not have much formal upper education as a child, his family and friends easily consider him the smartest man in the world. His intelligence, work ethic, and desire to care for his family led him to a career in construction where he oversaw multiple crews and projects. Although he boasted a successful career, his greatest accomplishment was being the most wonderful father to his kids and grandfather to his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. After retirement, some of Ed’s favorite activities included working around the family home with his children and grandchildren, taking care of the dog, cats, horses, chickens, donkeys, and goats, and most of all-building Awana Derby Soap Box Cars each Spring with all his grand and great-grandkids, most of which took top prizes! Ed was preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Humphrey; sister, Sandra Underwood; and all his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren (and their respective families), all of whom will miss him until they are reunited. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens beginning at 12:00.
