Marx, Edgar Bertram, age 85, passed away on April 10, 2022, surrounded by family. Born on January 16, 1937 in Birmingham, AL. Edgar was pre-deceased by his parents Bertram Moses Marx and Marion Adler Marx; his sister, Jane Marx Levy; and his wife of 52 years, Margot Kessler Marx. He is survived by his children, Edgar Bertram Marx Jr. (Marion) and Katharine Simon Marx (Stephanie); and his grandchildren, Edgar Bertram Marx III, Griffin Adler Marx, and Samuel Decker Marx; and his niece, Marion Levy Lapidus (Brad).
A Birmingham native, Edgar attended Ramsay High School and the University of Alabama. After college, he joined his family business, Marx Brothers, Inc., which under his leadership became a prominent importer and processor of coconut products. Edgar served in the Air National Guard. He was a lifelong member of Temple Emanu-El, a member of the Beaux Arts Krewe, and supporter of the Birmingham community. Most meaningful, for over 30 years, Edgar enjoyed Friday lunches with his closest friends.
There will be an 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service and Reception at Temple Emanu-El following a private burial at Elmwood Cemetery on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.
