Dorothy "Dot" Jones Anderson, of Birmingham, AL, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2024. Born February 5, 1941 in Tuscaloosa, AL, Dot was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Dot is survived by her husband of 62 years, James A. Anderson II; sons James A. Anderson III (April) and William D. Anderson; sister, Margaret Graham Cannon; grandchild, Eliza Kate Anderson; nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Elois H. Jones; and brother George W. "Buddy" Jones.
She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School class of 1959 and was the Editor in Chief of the school newspaper “The Bear Facts”. Dot attended the University of Alabama 1959-1962, and graduated Auburn University with a BA in Journalism in 1966. She was a longtime member of the Cathedral Church of the Advent and was a member of St. Bridgett's Guild. Dot was an active member and past President of the Village Garden Club and a member of the Birmingham Music Club Guild. She enjoyed many days at the Shades Valley YMCA in the aerobics class where she was known as “Miss Sunshine”.
A private graveside service was held at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park Cemetery in Tuscaloosa.
A celebration of her life will be held in Birmingham at a later date.
