Dennis “Wayne” Veitch passed away peacefully at his home on December 3, 2024 in Pleasant Grove, AL after battling cancer. Wayne was the youngest child of four and born on November 25, 1945 to Leon and Lois Veitch in Birmingham, AL. He was 79 years old when he passed.
Wayne was a graduate of Fairfield High School in 1964. He was a high school football player and wrestler. Wayne was a good friend to many people.
After high school, Wayne attended the University of Alabama in 1965 where he played football. Later in 1967, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served for seven years and was honorably discharged in 1974. Wayne graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1988 majoring in Business. He worked at Southern Company Services for 24 years. For the past thirty years, Wayne has helped run the his family business, Veitch Machine Company.
Wayne married his wife, Debbie on July 17, 1971 and they were together for 52 years. They liked traveling for fun. In Wayne’s younger years he enjoyed being a softball coach, working on his corvette, and being a member of the Stogie group.
Wayne loved watching sports. He was a huge Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He also never missed watching the Atlanta Braves play baseball and enjoyed watching all sports including nascar, basketball and even golf. Wayne was an avid coin collector. He has been collecting coins since he was a young boy. He loved the Sunnyside family beach house and working in his nature area. He recently found a new hobby. Wayne was the proud owner of a 1965 GTO. This car helped him stay busy.
Wayne is survived by his two daughters Jennifer Clark (Bill) of Morris, AL and Julie Scott (Chad) of Tunica, MS. Wayne is also survived by his brother George Veitch. His grandchildren are as follows: Michael, Kenna, Thomasina, James, Kimberly, Carley, Lexi, Collin and Walker. His great grandchildren are Kensley, Jayce, Alysa, Gavin, Charlie, Adley, Aron, and Bryce. He also leaves two four legged friends - Mandy and Kate.
Wayne is predeceased in the recent death of his wife Debbie Veitch and son Jim Veitch. He was also proceeded by his brother Bob Veitch and sister Joyce Lunceford.
Serving as Pallbearers are as follows: David Wilson, John McGiboney, Micheal Hedrick, Collin Scott, James Veitch Jr., Mike Chase, Gavin Hedrick, and David Veitch
The funeral will be held at John-Ridout’s Mortuary and Chapel on Monday, December 9. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 with the service beginning at 11:00 am, followed by a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery.
