Barto Louis Brown, III "Skip", 69 passed away August 9, 2015 at his home in Mountain Brook. He was born April 25, 1946, in Birmingham, the son of the late Barto Louis Brown, Jr. and the late Leila Mae Borland Gayler (Hugh). Skip graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1964 where he was a member of the Tophatters' Club and loved the reunions visiting with old friends. He graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing in 1968. Skip is survived by the love of his life and best friend of 47 years, Sara Kathryn Norris Brown; his two sons: Barto (Bart) Louis Brown, IV (Laura); Barry Christopher Brown, Sr. (Heather); grandchildren: Holly, Anna Catherine, Louis, Sara Allen, Harrison, and Christopher Brown. He leaves behind his three sisters, Jeannie Brown Bradford (Harry), Debbie Brown Goldman (Jay), and Merrye Jane Brown Brunson (Bill). Lastly, he leaves behind a loving church family, a community family, and treasured friends to cherish his memory. Skip was Owner of Arnold-Brown Metals and Supply, LLC. He was an avid Alabama fan and a member of the Red Elephant Club and Tip off Club. He was a former member of the Shades Valley Rotary Club of Birmingham and faithfully served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School, and was active on committees at Brookwood Baptist Church where he was a member for 32 years. He also served in the Alabama Air National Guard. Skip was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who always had a great sense of humor and wit. A graveside Service for family and friends will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 13th, at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be the same day at Brookwood Baptist Church (3449 Overton Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35223), from 1:00-2:20 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will follow in the Sanctuary, 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to True Vine Church (4030 40th Terrace North, Birmingham AL 35217).
