Arthur Jackson Phillips Jr.

Arthur Jackson Phillips, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 27, 2019. He was preceded in death by: Parents Arthur J. Phillips, Sr. and Helen Howard Phillips; sisters Helen Phillips Andress and Elizabeth Phillips Turner. He is survived by: wife, Pat W. Phillips, sons Arthur Jackson Phillips III (Leasha) and David Scott Phillips (Carol), grandchildren Abbey Phillips Freeman (Morgan), David Scott Phillips, Jr, and Darcy Anne Phillips, nieces Beverly and Diane, and a host of friends. Art attended Avondale School, Ramsey High School, and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn) before leaving college to serve in the United States Navy aboard the USS Alabama in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. After the war, he returned to API to graduate in 1949. He spent most of his career in plant management and sales at Alabama By-Products Corporation. Art served on the board of the 5 Points and Shades Valley YMCAs and was chairman of the board of the 5 Points YMCA. Art and Pat were members at Shades Mountain Baptist Church and the Kline Sunday School Class, and former members of Shades Mountain Bible Church where Art served as a deacon, elder, and Missions Minister. There will be a graveside service on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 11:00 at Elmwood Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Shades Mountain Baptist Church from 12:30 to 2:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial donations be sent to Shades Mountain Baptist Church Missions Fund.
