On May 8th, 2024, we said goodbye for now to Anthony Raco of Hoover, AL who went to be with his Lord at 86 years of age. He wasn’t famous, but he left an impression on those who met him. He was deeply loved by family and friends, whose lives benefited from his presence. He was a quiet man, thoughtful, honest, humble and kind. He lived a life that was Christ centered. When he prayed, you could feel the presence of the Lord.
He was born in Birmingham AL on March 20, 1938. Graduated from Ramsay High School and
served in the U.S. Navy. After his service to his country in the US Navy, he and Betty were married in 1961. They had one son, James Anthony Raco in 1965. Anthony was so proud of James and his walk with the Lord.
He adored his Granddaughter Anna and was so proud of her too. “His little school teacher”. He was a Real Estate Broker, salesman and a technician for dialysis patients at most of the hospitals in Alabama. He retired from MarCor Medical Services and U.S.X Corporation.
Anthony and Betty were members of Shades Mountain Independent Church, since 1970. He served for several years as a Board Member and served as an elder. He was passionate about his Lord, his family, Alabama Football and Riverview Bowling, in that order! He had a servant’s heart and a kind spirit, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Carmelo & Antionette Raco. 1 Brother – Mike Alfano, 1 Sister - Christine Dumas, 1 Sister-in-Law – Rosalie Princiotta, 1 Nephew – MorrisPrinciotta, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Betty Raco of Hoover AL, his Son James Anthony Raco (Lisa) - Hoover AL, Granddaughter - Anna Raco Graham (Troup) Hoover AL, Grandson Chris Donze (Britney) – Vestavia AL, Great Grandson – Cypress Donze, Brother Morris Princiotta Sr. and cousins he loved like siblings, Grant and Jean Irwin.
A visitation for Anthony will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Anthony will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery.
