Alfred (Buddy) Michael Mancuso passed away on August 4, 2023, with his wife by his side in Birmingham, Alabama, at the age of 77. He was born on October 15, 1945, in Montgomery, Alabama. Buddy was a kind and sweet-natured individual who held his family dear to his heart. He never missed one of his children's sporting events, which is just one of the many examples of Buddy demonstrating his unwavering love and support for them. His children will forever be grateful to have grown up with him as a father and will always cherish the memories they have with him.
Buddy was born to Lt. Colonel Salvatore Thomas Mancuso (Gus) and Adeline Mary Colavita Mancuso. He graduated from Montgomery Catholic High in May of 1963 and the University of Alabama in 1967. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity; he was proud to have been the President of his fraternity in 1965. After college, Buddy became a Commercial Real Estate Broker and worked on large projects all over the US. He was the President of Highland Capital Real Estate.
Buddy, one of six children, developed a lifelong passion for golf from a young age. He loved being on the golf course, where he honed his skills and created lasting memories. His dedication to the sport was evident throughout his life. He spent many summers with his children playing in tournaments at the Country Club of Birmingham where he was a member for many years. He jokingly told his family that he was proud to be the first member of Italian descent. Buddy was also a part of the Sting and Gravy Train dog fight groups: he formed some of his greatest friendships with his golfing buddies.
Buddy's shared his love for his family by preparing meals for his loved ones. His specialty creations were Italian dishes; he was renowned for his homemade pizzas and pasta. His culinary creations brought joy and nourishment to those fortunate enough to savor his dishes.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 24 years, Jennifer Burns Mancuso; and his two children, Michael Burns Mancuso and Leah Adeline Mancuso, and, his siblings, Adeline Williams (Dr. Donald Bryant), Alan Stephen (Brucie), Francine Parker (Dr. Terry), and Nancy Paterson (John Burns III), and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Affinity Hospice, and Fair Haven Long Term Care. We would like to acknowledge and thank his beloved friends, Carolyn Barnes, Shelia Marie Edwards, and Lucy Wilson. A Memorial Mass is planned at The Cathedral of Saint Paul located at 2120 3rd Ave N, Birmingham on Wednesday, August 9th at 10:00 am. A reception with the family will follow at the Country Club of Birmingham located at 3325 Country Club Road in Birmingham. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's of Central Alabama (ACA) at alzca.org.
Buddy will be deeply missed by his friends and family. His gentle humor, kind disposition, and unwavering love will be cherished in their memories forever. We will miss you until we see you again, Dad. We love you. May your soul rest in peace.
