Mildred (Millie) Ruth Janssen, 98, of Beverly Hills, Florida and Roseville, Minnesota, joined her savior Jesus Christ on November 8, 2023 in Lecanto, Florida. Millie was born in Pekin, Illinois on October 16, 1925. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Millie is survived by her daughter, Jewel Hasek and son-in-law Don; her son, Jeff Janssen and daughter-in-law Kim-Thoa; her son, Jay Janssen and daughter-in-law Marian. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Dr. Julia Pickens (Jonathan Pickens), Dr. Katherine Janssen (Dan Gallego-Geisen), Jackie Carlryd (Daniel Carlryd), Jonathan Janssen (Kendra Janssen), and Jessica Crimi (Michael Crimi). Millie was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Lena Pickens, Elliott Geisen-Janssen, Danielle Geisen-Janssen, Emil Carlryd, Linus Carlryd, Myles Janssen, and Kelly Ann Crimi.
Millie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Janssen, as well as her father, Robert H. Doren, and mother, Alice Mae Doren (McAllister).
Millie attended Pekin High School and later pursued her higher education at Wheaton College and Bradley University. She dedicated her career to teaching, serving as a grade school teacher from 1950 to 1956. Millie was a homemaker and also shared her passion for music by working as a piano teacher from 1960 to 2005. Additionally, she served as a church organist from 1961 to 1970.
Millie found solace and community in her places of worship. She was an active charter member of the Presbyterian Church of the Way in Shoreview, Minnesota, and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Beverly Hills, Florida.
Beyond her professional and religious endeavors, Millie has a variety of hobbies. She actively engaged in politics, even serving as a campaign manager. Millie joyfully worked in the church kitchen, played the piano, participated in bridge games, fishing at the cabin on Star Lake, and tending to her garden.
A visitation will be held in Millie’s honor on Monday November 13, 2023 at 4:30 and followed by a memorial service at 5:00 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, located at 6150 N. Lecanto Hwy, Beverly Hills, Florida 34465.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Millie’s services are entrusted to Fero Funeral Home and Life Celebration Center in Beverly Hills, Florida
Millie Janssen will be remembered for her unwavering love and dedication to her family, her passion as a Christian, for teaching music, and her active involvement in her community. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
