She was born on January 3, 1925, and raised in the tiny town of Meridian, California. Her parents were Laura Ethyl Rockholt English and Homer Merritt English. On the eve of World War II, the family moved to the Sacramento area to join the war effort by working at McClellan Army airbase. All members of the family except for Doris, who had to finish school at Grant Union High School, worked at the base.
Once she graduated from high school, she also went to work at the base where she eventually met her future husband, through her brother, Alfred Laverne English. She began her career in the typing pool and worked her way up until she finally settled in the Civilian Personnel Office and ended her career as a Personnel Specialist.
She married Robert J. Beston on December 21, 1946. During their marriage, they were quite active. They enjoyed camping in the mountains and at the ocean and they loved to travel. When Robert retired, she took a 3-year tour to Ramstein Air Force Base in West Germany.
While they were in Germany, they were able to travel extensively around Europe and even took an amazing safari in Africa. A few years after returning home, she retired so they could travel around the US.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Jamie Beston Roussel (Richard Roussel) and was preceded in death by her father and mother and her brother.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you consider donating to the Shriners Children’s Hospital of Northern California, 2425 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95817, or the Citrus County Animal Shelter, 4030 S Airport Road, inverness, FL 34450.
