Dorothy Evelyn Spain “Dot" Jones, retired book keeper for Edmond Music, died at the Villages at Southern Hills, Tulsa, Ok, on December 11, 2012 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was 84 years old.
She was born April 24, 1928 in Grenada, MS to the late Troy Alva and late Alice Bryant Spain. She graduated from Booneville High School in 1946. Dot excelled in math, and upon graduation, went to work for the Milton Ford dealership in Booneville, MS. She was their bookkeeper until her marriage.
On September 1, 1956, Dot was united in marriage with the love of her life, the late James Thruston Jones, in Booneville, MS. They were married for 54 years.
Dorothy took a hiatus from bookkeeping in 1959 upon the birth of her oldest child, preferring to focus her many talents and energies on her family as a wife and mother. She was an involved and committed parent, working with the PTA in Missouri, Ohio and Oklahoma. She took the role of Camp Fire Leader for their groups and provided tireless support in her children and grandchildren in any activity or interest they pursued throughout her lifetime. After their daughters were all in school, Dot returned to the career she loved. She worked for Dub Richardson Ford from 1971 until early 1973, then for Edmond Music from 1973 until her retirement in 2007.
Mrs. Jones was an active member of Village Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, where she was a member of the Prime Time Choir and Senior Sunday School class. She spent many years previously working as a Sunday School teacher in the preschool department of Putnam City Baptist church, where her quiet faith and genuine caring touched a generation of young lives.
During her final months, Dot was constantly attended by one or more of her children, who never left her side. They shared laughter and tears, reminiscing about their lives, and singing the Baptist Hymnal cover to cover. This precious time together with their courageous mother has left an indelible imprint on each of their lives.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Lisa Woodworth and husband, Tom of Bixby, OK, Karen French and husband, Ron of Palm Coast, FL, and Kimberly Belongia and husband, Paul of Tulsa, OK.
