Donald Wayne Clark, age 87, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024 in Oklahoma City. He was born August 21, 1936 in Elgin, Oklahoma to James Wayne and Clara Ella Elizabeth (Ahlwardt) Clark. Don was the oldest of 5 children and learned the value of hard work early in life. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1955 and would soon meet Peggy Rachel Melton, whom he married on December 10, 1956 in Chandler. After 10 years of marriage, they expanded their family with the adoption of their son, Eric, and 7 months later, welcomed their son Brian. Don was in the Army Reserves for 6 years and he attended Oklahoma State Tech in Okmulgee where he studied to become a diesel mechanic. Don worked a full 40 years as a diesel mechanic with various companies including Detroit Diesel, Equip Service, and United Engines. Don was an avid reader and storyteller. He enjoyed being a part of Civil War reenactments and fired the cannon to start off the Yukon Czech Festival for many years. Don was a devoted Christian and lived his life to serve others. He was humble, kind, sweet, funny, dependable, and loved his family unconditionally. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Harlan Clark; and nephew, Charles “Chip” Harlan Clark, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 67 1/2 years, Peggy Clark; sons and daughter-in-law, Eric Clark and Brian and Lori Clark; grandson, Nathan Clark; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Lee Cashat, Shirley and James McGavock; brother, James Frederick Clark; as well a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Visitation will be 4pm-8pm Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
A Celebration of Don’s life will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Yukon First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at Paradise Valley Cemetery in Lawton.
The family has requested donations to Yukon First Church of the Nazarene in lieu of flowers.
