Wanda Lou Peterson of Bentonville passed away Friday, September 23, 2022, at her home, surrounded by loved ones, after a brief illness. It was her 88th birthday. She was born in 1934, in Washita County, Oklahoma to the late Jesse Albert Jones and Verna Mae VanWinkle Jones. Wanda Lou was also preceded by her husband, Verlin Ray Peterson Sr; her brother, J.A. Jones and a step-son, Verlin Ray Peterson Jr.
Wanda Lou moved to Bentonville at the age of three and lived there the rest of her life. She attended school in Bentonville and following graduation attended business school. Wanda Lou then married and began her family. She worked for the Bank of Bentonville and then for Farmers Insurance. Later she worked 20 plus years with Walmart, from which she retired. She loved being outdoors, visiting with neighbors and friends, magnolias and cooking for her family for the holidays. Everyone in the church loved her homemade peanut brittle at Christmas time. Wanda loved making crafts and walking the local craft fairs. She was an active, lifetime member of Bentonville Church of Christ.
Survivors include her children, Dennis (Diane) Phillips of Bentonville, Dwayne (Anne LaRue) Phillips of Rogers, Connie Peterson Bell of Deer Park, TX, Carl Peterson of Bentonville; grandchildren, Kristina Phillips, Cheridyth White (Zach) of Bentonville, Randi Haddock (John) of Springdale, Leah Taylor (Chad) of Bentonville, Jessieca Davenport of North Port, FL, LaRanda Whitney (Gary) of Bentonville; 19 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; numerous extended family members; her church family; and dear friends. Services will be Thursday, September, 29, 2022 at Bentonville Church of Christ with Visitation beginning at 11:00am and her Funeral service at 12:00pm. Interment will follow in Benton County Memorial Park Cemetery.
