He was born July 2, 1938 at Pickens Hospital in Bentonville, Arkansas to Lark and Dana Cloe. He told others, always with great pride, that he was a native Arkansan.
Following high school, Phillip spent 6 months working for Civil Service on Kodiak Island in Alaska. In 1957, he was hired by Townley Metal and Hardware in Kansas City where he worked until 1978. In 1978, he made the move to Independence, Kansas where he became part owner of Sandot Lumber Company. During the mid-80s, Phill went to work for Cotter and Company (True Value) where he was a Retail Consultant and revered by the store owners that he consulted. In April 2009, he retired after 53 years in the hardware business. He was awarded the Estwing Gold Hammer Award for his years of service.
During his lifetime, Phill loved horses, hunting, and hardware. Fishing and golf were also two great passions. Oh how he loved his time on the course with his buddies, or in the boat with his wife and sons. He also had a private pilot’s license with an instrument rating and logged many many hours of flight time.
In the fall of 1970, he met the love of his life, Terry Carlyle in a Sentry Hardware store in the Parklane Shopping Center in Wichita, Kansas. On April 3, 1971, they were united in marriage. From this union two sons were born; Adam born on March 10, 1983, and Nathan born December 7, 1986.
Phillip is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Terry; three sons, Michael (Rene) of Kansas City, Missouri, Adam of Joplin, Missouri, and Nathan of Bella Vista, Arkansas; one granddaughter, and three great-grandchildren; his brother, Jack of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his younger brother, Thomas.
Memorial Services for Mr. Cloe will be held Friday, March 31 at 11:00 am at the Bella Vista Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the church.
