David Maihofer Jr., 65, of Bentonville, AR, went home to the Lord on August 23, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. David will be dearly missed by family and friends as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who overcame challenges and instilled strong values in his family.
David was born on July 30, 1959, to David and Beverly Maihofer in Gary, Indiana. He graduated from Agua Fria High School in Litchfield Park, Arizona, in 1977. He went on to study at NAU in Flagstaff, Arizona, and joined the Sigma Pi fraternity. Davey, as his family recommended to him, realized that college was not the path for him. Shortly afterward, he joined the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Vallejo, CA, and toured the Philippines. His enlistment opened doors for the rest of his life—something for which he was always grateful.
After leaving the Navy, David embarked on a lifelong career in technology systems and networking that took him all over the country. He worked for companies such as Ford Aerospace, NASA in Houston, TX, and Wolf Creek Nuclear Power in Emporia, Kansas—all before the age of 25. David was part of a new and evolving computer revolution.
In Emporia, David met the love of his life, Linda Noller, and her beloved son, Chris, who soon became one of his own. David and Linda committed their lives to each other and exchanged vows on October 6, 1984, during an impromptu trip to Las Vegas at a little white chapel—a place they would frequently visit to celebrate their beginning.
In December of 1985, David celebrated the birth of his first daughter, Ashley Maihofer. A few years later, he welcomed twin sons, Nick and Kyle (Pedro & Jose). David went on to work at Intel in Chandler, AZ, and planted roots in Gilbert, Arizona, where he and Linda raised their family for the next 10 years. It was an “American Dream,” filled with trips to Hawley Lake, desert hikes, time spent with extended family, and, most importantly, teaching life lessons to those who meant the most to him.
In 1999, David left Arizona to start a new life for his young family in a state he had only visited once—Arkansas. It became a place he grew to love and vowed never to leave. His career took him to Beverly Enterprises in Fort Smith, AR, and later to Cisco Systems in Rogers, AR, from which he would retire.
In 2000, David and Linda purchased their dream home on Beaver Lake in Garfield, AR, where they would spend the next 24 beautiful years. An avid entertainer, David could often be found cooking or celebrating with friends and family.someone he Whether it was a birthday for his grandkids or Christmas, all were welcome, and he took on the responsibility to establish family traditions and events. Family was a big word for Dave.
In retirement, David enjoyed the outdoors, HAM radios, and botany, but what mattered most to him was spending time with his family. The pride of his life was his grandchildren, for whom he would do anything. Always loving and never ashamed to express it publicly, he made sure to remind everyone he loved where they stood in his heart—sometimes with a hug and a kiss, but most frequently with a text and a special nickname for his beloved grandchildren. From oldest to youngest: Caleb Snoderly (Hoss), Cayden Wamser, Lexi Snoderly (Missy Moo), Hunter Snoderly (H.D.), Juliet Lawson (The Scholar), Easton Maihofer (Bubba), and Jennings Maihofer (The Bambino).
David was preceded in death by his loving mother, Beverly Maihofer, and his grandparents.
He is survived by his father, David Maihofer Sr.; his loving wife, Linda Maihofer; his children: Ashley Maihofer, Nick Maihofer, Kyle Maihofer, and Chris Wamser; his brothers, Scott Maihofer and Todd Maihofer; his sister, Jennifer Maihofer; his seven grandchildren; and his beloved yellow lab, Maverick.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville, AR, on Friday, August 30th, 2024, at 11:30 AM. The burial procession will immediately follow at Fayetteville National Cemetery for a graveside service.
