John Randall Baker

John Randall Baker (Randy) died unexpectedly at his home in Belton, MO on October 17, 2018, Belton, MO, 59. John is survived by his parents, Ray and Maureen Baker of Lake Jackson, TX; sons, John (J.R.) Baker and Westin Baker of Belton, MO; brother, Les Baker (Chris, Tracy) of Spring, TX; sisters, Lisa Madsen (Dan, Danielle, Ricky) of Richmond, TX, and Amy Summa (Dale, Russell) of Lake Jackson, TX; Aunt Margaret and Uncle Alvin Sikes of Orange, TX and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Oma and Ray Baker and John and Rose Sikes. John was born on May 22, 1959 at Herman Hospital in Houston, TX weighing a whopping 8 lbs 7 oz at 11:49 am. He was baptized at Sharpstown Baptist Church in Houston. He attended Scarborough High School, Houston, TX. From there, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he met his wife and the mother of his children, Lisa Laman Baker of Springlake, MI. They were married in 1984. John became a journeyman lineman in December 1984 and moved to Belton, MO. He began working for Missouri Public Service (known today as Kansas City Power and Light) in 1988, where he continued to work for 30 years. He took pride in his work and was well respected by his colleagues, who he considered family. John was a skilled hunter, fisherman, and motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons. John was generous and witty. He worked hard for his family. He was passionate about making sure those he loved were cared for. He was an active member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and an active member of the neighborhood watch. He was the head coach of his sons’ little league baseball teams where they often took home the tournament trophy. Many considered John to be a mentor - including coworkers, kids that he coached, his sons and his sons friends. He loved family vacations, spending time with his family, and weekends helping his people out. He spent his weekends working on projects with his sons. In lieu of gifts, he would ask his sons for acts of service. He taught his sons about life and working hard. “If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right.” His big smile and many catchphrases will be greatly missed. Right on.
