Janet (Jan) Jones, age 83, of Belton, MO passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 12th, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Kansas City, Jan became a beloved member of the Belton community after marrying Jake Jones in 1974. She embraced her role as a stepmother to Jake's sons, David and Darin, with warmth and generosity.
Jan's professional journey was diverse, reflecting her adventurous spirit. She served as a dedicated mail carrier for the USPS, drove a dump truck, and took on the responsibility of transporting students as a school bus driver. Notably, she was also a private pilot, showcasing her fearless pursuit of new experiences. Jan's enthusiasm for life extended to her hobbies, including rock hunting and exploring the country in the comfort of her RV alongside Jake. As a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, she found joy in friendship and
community.
For the past 12 years, Jan resided at Carnegie Village in Belton, where she became a beloved member of the community. Known for her warm personality, Jan never knew a stranger, and both staff and residents cherished her presence.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband Jake and son Tony Johnson. She is survived by her sisters Riva Jacobs and Florence Middleton (Bob); sons David (Donna) and Darin (Rachael); seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces Kelly, Carrie, and Cris; nephew John; and a very special longtime caregiver, Michelle Angotti, who became an integral part of the family.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 27 in the Belton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests considering a donation in Jan's name to "Belton Welfare," addressed to Karen Calvert at 908 Applewood Lane, Belton, MO 64012.
Jan's legacy of warmth, kindness, and adventurous spirit will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
