Donald was born January 23, 1932 in Evansville, IN to George and Delila (Alvey) Merrick. Donald, a U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd CL, was a Korean War veteran serving from 1950-1953. He retired from the U.S. Post Office as a Postmaster of Newburgh, IN. He was a lifetime member of Evansville VFW Post 1114 and a member of American Legion Post 21. He was involved in the National Association of Postmasters, Masonic Lodge 82, F&AM of Princeton, KY, Ashland Kentucky Hillbilly Lodge #54, he was a Kentucky Colonel and Abou Ben Adhen Shrine Temple of Springfield, MO. Donald was an area resident for over 20 years and a member of the Christian Church.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 70 years Ramona; and sisters Patricia Burgdorf and Sue Swank. He is survived by sons Ronald (Karen) Merrick of Raymore, MO and Michael Merrick of Evansville, IN; grandchildren Kerry (Jeff) Boehm, Shanann (Chad) Stone, Josh Merrick and Ashley (Jeff) Rives; 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at Locust Hill Cemetery, Evansville, IN at a later date.
