William "Bill" Lloyd II

William Marklove Lloyd II passed away peacefully surrounded by family on a warm fall Sunday afternoon with the Seahawks game on the TV. We have lost a brilliant mind, and a great man devoted to his family and friends.

Bill was born in Brooklyn and grew up on Long Island the only child of William and Florence Lloyd. At the age of 20 he graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts with an engineering degree and was recruited to work in Seattle for the Boeing Company. His first apartment was near the UW campus and there he met lifelong friends in the Canterbury Club at Christ Episcopal Church. Among the students there was a stunning red-head, Janet Elliott, who would become his bride of 56 years. Many of those people would remain their closest and longest friends. After they settled in Bellevue, they raised four sons. He taught them all to drive in his ’68 Mustang Convertible. Bill and Janet ensured all four boys graduated college debt free and laid a foundation for their future success and happiness. He was a Seahawk season ticket holder, at the home games with at least one of his sons. He showed how sports can draw us closer together.

Each summer, Bill and Janet spent a week at Seabeck Family Camp. The people there became year round extended family. His greatest pride was winning the cribbage tournament. He never lost a game when dealt the right cards.

Bill worked at Boeing for 44 years as an electrical engineer and manager. He played a lead role in the development of electrical systems for the 747 and 767 among many other projects. Aviation remained his life-long passion. In retirement he volunteered at the Boeing tour center and at the Boeing archives. His knowledge of commercial aviation history remains unmatched.

He was a man of quiet faith, most boldly expressed through music. Bill sang in the St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church choir for 40 years and lent his deep baritone voice to such performances as Mahler’s 2nd Symphony and Mozart’s Requiem.

He is survived by his beloved Janet, sons William Marklove III “Mark” (Jeri), Philip Edwin (Karen), Andrew Frederick (Pam), John Elliott (Laura) and grandchildren Sarah, Ian, David, Geoffrey, Nathan and Daniel.

A choral memorial service will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, November 10, 2012 at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Bellevue 4228 Factoria Boulevard SE. Memorials may be sent to St. Margaret’s or Seabeck Christian Conference Center.
