Susanne was born to the late Harry Jesse Gee and Nancy Reekie Gee on January 24, 1952, in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from the Westlake School for Girls, Holmby Hills, California in 1969, attended college in England, the University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Washington, and Syracuse University where she received her bachelor’s degree and met her future husband, George Mastrodonato. She later received an MS in nutrition and was a nutritionist in Los Angeles, including at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Susanne decided she wanted to become a physician and, after taking additional pre-med college classes, was accepted at the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington D.C., where she graduated (1995) and received the top student dermatology award. She interned at Brown University, Providence, RI, and did her residency in dermatology at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI.
Twenty-five years after first meeting, dating, planning a life together, separating and getting back together again, Susanne and George were married on December 18, 1997, in Dearborn, MI at Fair Lane, the Clara and Henry Ford Mansion. Susanne moved to Washington State where George was living, working, and she began her medical career in Bellevue at a Virginia Mason clinic. Susanne and George split time living in Seattle and Olympia before purchasing a home in West Seattle in 2002, where Susanne also opened her own dermatology practice.
Susanne practiced in West Seattle for 18 years until she retired at the end of 2020. She and George sold their home in West Seattle in early 2021 moved to Santa Fe, NM, where they purchased a new home and hoped to have a long, sunny, and fun-filled retirement together amongst the numerous art galleries and fine restaurants that Santa Fe is well known for.
Susanne was an avid art collector. She was also active member of the West Seattle Rotary Club where she was a committee chair, officer and eventually president. She had just begun volunteering at The Horse Shelter, Santa Fe, NM before she became ill.
Susanne is survived by her husband George, his two children, Anne Lesley (Mastrodonato) Amstutz and Michael Jay Mastrodonato, Anne’s six-year-old son Mason, Susanne’s two nephews, Eric Gee and Ryan Gee, and numerous cousins on her mother’s side of the family. Susanne’s only sibling, Dr. Harry Jeffrey Gee, died in a tragic motor vehicle accident in 2020.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center/Pancreatic Cancer Research, Seattle, WA, the Henry Ford Pancreatic Cancer Center, Detroit, MI, or to The Horse Shelter, Santa Fe, NM.
